Our interns participated in seven visits to the Connecticut State Capitol and Legislative Office Building, gaining firsthand insight into how state government and the legislative process work.
In Hartford, our interns:
Met with Committee Chairs, from both the Senate and the House of Representatives
Had individual conversations with elected officials
Met privately with the speak of the house
Talked with lobbyists, environmental advocates, and Capitol Police officers
Spoke with advocates regarding their groups’ bill priorities, especially CTLCV (solar) and Sierra Club (superfund)
Met with Executive Branch policy employees
Toured both buildings
Were hosted on the House Floor by several representatives
Observed votes being taken on the Floor of the House
Together, we demystified the political process and instilled hope in young people working towards change.
